The weekend is almost here and you’re ready to get out of the office and away from home. Lucky for you, tomorrow also is St. Patrick’s Day and San Antonio is planning to paint the town green. Don’t worry if you forgot to make plans for the holiday. The following three festivals are close to our Leon Valley apartments so you can enjoy your weekend:

What is St. Patrick’s Day?

But first things first. What is St. Patrick’s Day all about? You may have learned that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, but this is just a myth. However, he is the patron saint of Ireland, making St. Patrick’s Day a religious holiday. In Ireland, most people attend church in the morning and then celebrate with a traditional meal of bacon and cabbage, drinks, and dancing in the evening. In San Antonio, we take this a step further with some shamrock-inspired parties.

Bud Light St. Patrick’s Day Festival

Where: Arneson River Theater, 418 Villita Street

Distance From The Place at Houston Street: 8 miles

What: This is one of our favorite events to promote every year, since San Antonio has been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on the River Walk for more than 50 years. Enjoy a green Bud Light to match the green river running through the event as well as Irish food, music, dancing, face painting, and other activities. This is a great event to bring the whole family because there’s something for everyone.

The Harp & Shamrock Irish Festival

Where: The River Walk

Distance From The Place at Castle Hills and Shadow Valley: 13 miles

What: Take a step away from our San Antonio pet-friendly apartments for the day to spend it downtown with your fellow community members. This Irish-themed event offers amazing Irish music and dancing as well as an entire food court of Irish food. If you want to burn some calories before eating your fill of delicious food, sign up for the 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival at Burleson Yard Beer Garden

Where: 430 Austin Street, San Antonio, Texas 78215

Distance From The Place at Oak Hills: 11 miles

What: If you want something a little more adult, this is the party you want to hit. You can find plenty of green beer to drink, tasty food, and fantastic live music to keep you going all day and all night. There will be a $5 cover charge, part of which will go to Good Samaritan Community Services.
