New Years Food Traditions in Texas
Every place seems to have them…food traditions. Some of them are rooted in the culture of the place, some are rooted in superstition, others are just meals that some people have been eating in the region for so long that they catch on eventually.
Here in Texas there are a couple of different food traditions but the New Years Eve meal that is said to bring you wealth, luck, and happiness is a little odd to some people…it’s black eyed peas, salt pork, and jalapeños!
It’s some staples of traditional Southern comfort food that many people eat throughout the year. It’s said though that you should eat this meal on the 31st of the year to make sure that your year starts and ends on a good note. You go into the new year with a full belly, a positive mindset, and of course a happy heart.
I think the meal has as much to do with the people that you eat it with as it does with the actual food that we’re consuming!
Do you have any weird food traditions in your family that others think are odd? Do you have any food traditions in your past from places that you have lived? Do you eat black eyed peas, salt pork and jalapeños on New Years Eve?
