The San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show is coming to town through the month of February, and we can’t wait. It is one of the most popular events in San Antonio that we look forward to all year long. Whether you’ve been celebrating all things cowboy every year for as long as you can remember or if it is your first time, we’ve got five reasons why you should attend the San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show 2017.
History and Education
The San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show has a long history in The Alamo City and has become the largest and most prestigious event of the year. Beginning as an agricultural fair, the stock and rodeo show has grown into a full educational and entertaining show. The show has donated more than $170 million in grants and scholarships to Texas youth. Bring your family and friends to look at animals, appreciate western art, or watch the rodeo and be a part of the state’s history and western culture.
If you love animals, this is the place to be. Just for starters, there will be pig races, a petting zoo, pony rides, and a dairy center. If that’s not enough for you, check out the Zoomagination exhibit that will focus on how humans, animals, and the environment interact with each other. You also will get to see adorable sloths, cuddly wallabies, tiny hedgehogs, and prickly porcupines. Not only will you get to see and even pet all of these amazing animals, but you can learn about them and their habitats in the process.
The rodeo is the most obvious form of entertainment happening between February 9 and February 26. There will be traditional rodeo events, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. In addition, there will be muttin bustin for the kids, trick roping, animal athletes, and more. You are sure to see beautiful horses, wild broncos, and strong bulls throughout the rodeo’s stay in San Antonio.
We’re going country with all the musical performances happening around the rodeo. Choose one of the amazing country music shows with bands like Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, Willie Nelson, The Band Perry, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, or Rascal Flatts. There’s a show every day of the rodeo, so choose your favorite band, buy your tickets, and sing your heart out!
If you’re looking for things to do in San Antonio with your kids, there are tons of events and activities at the Stock and Rodeo Show they will love. Start by checking out the Youth Rodeo and Youth Horse Challenge where over 1,000 kids will show off their athletic ability. Take your kids to see people their age do barrel racing, roping, riding in obstacle courses, and showing off their knowledge and skills about equipment and groundwork. Who knows, your kids may even be inspired to join in on the agricultural fun next year.
Something Fun and Different
One of the best reasons to go to the San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show is simply to do something fun and different with your family and friends. It only comes once a year and is a great way to get outside, experience something new, and simply have a blast. No matter if you decide to pet some friendly farm animals or attend one of the amazing performances, you will have an unforgettable time doing something you can’t do every day.
We can’t wait for the 2017 San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Show! Let us know what you are most looking forward to in the comments!
