If you have never been to the San Antonio Fiesta than you are missing out on a truly special event. This is to celebrate over 125 years of family friendly fun that is a blast for anyone who attends. It’s estimated that over 3.5 million people will visit the Fiesta each year, with over 108 events that are sure to please everyone involved in this massive festival.

This celebration is only rivaled by Mardi Gras in Louisiana every year in size and scale. In order to get the most out of all the festivities, here is the ultimate insider’s guide to San Antonio Fiesta 2016. Get ready for a rocking good time all around the city! This year the dates are April 14th through the 24th.

Buy Your Tickets Early

Tickets went on sale on March 18th, so there is still time to get your advanced tickets before the event. You can buy them at the Fiesta Store located at 2611 Broadway in San Antonio. One of the most popular events of the fiesta is the River Parade which is on April 18th. As the 75th annual parade put on by the Texas Cavaliers, this is a spectacle not to be missed. You can get tickets online for this here on their website, or by calling 210-22-RIVER. There is even a map you can print out online to see exactly where the parade route will go, what attractions are along the way, and places that you can stay nearby to watch the lineup of floats, musical bands, and of course, the Texas Cavaliers.

For The Foodie

As a food lover, you are not going to want to miss the “Taste of New Orleans” event which is a three day foodie spectacular, running from April 15th-17th at the Sunken Garden Theater. Not only can you sample all the mouth watering Louisiana favorites such as Gumbo, Crawfish, and Etouffee, but you can also hear jazz based musicians playing all the greatest hits from the Dixieland era. The tickets to this event only cost $15 for adults ($12 presale), and children 10 and under are complimentary. So it’s a great event to bring the whole family to enjoy.

During April 19th-22nd, don’t miss the “A Night In Old San Antonio” for food booths that celebrate the Texas heritage of the area with more than 250 booths to check out. The drinks will be flowing, and the entertainment rollicking with over 15 separate heritage areas to explore. Tickets for this event are $15 at the gate ($12 presale), and children under 12 are complimentary. It’s family friendly enjoyment for all.

Best Ways To Avoid Traffic

VIA Park and Ride is the best way to avoid traffic, by not bringing your car into these crowded areas during the Fiesta, you won’t have to worry about expensive parking. There are many streets roped off so that people can walk freely among the activities. The best way to get there is by public transportation.

Also if you are staying at some of the area’s hotels, they will offer free shuttle rides during different times to get you to all the fun. You’ll be able to walk directly from many hotels along the riverside such as the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter, and the Hampton Inn Downtown Riverwalk San Antonio. Try to book your rooms well in advance, but many of these hotels still have some availability.

Caliente Can’t Miss Events

As an art lover you can’t miss the Fiesta Arts Fair which runs April 16-17th at the Southwest School For the Arts campus. There are over 115 exhibits, and this part of the Fiesta was voted one of the best art shows in the United States. There is even an hands on art creation tent for the kids to make their masterpieces in to take home and proudly display on your fridge. Admission for this fair is $10 for adults, and $5 for children.

Another part of the Fiesta is the “Fiesta de Los Reyes”, the party of the Kings is a musical celebration that spans four days from April 15th-24th at the Market Square. Admission is free to this fantastic part of the Fiesta with tons of musical entertainment in Tejano, Latin Jazz, and Country Western genres, food, games, and drinks to sample at the many booths around the square. This is one of the most exciting parts of the entire Fiesta that you aren’t going to want to miss, because it’s a caliente good time!
