You’re trying to stick to your budget but still have a fun April. It can seem difficult (and sometimes impossible), but San Antonio has plenty of things to do that won’t break the bank. We’re bringing you 10 free activities around San Antonio to do this month.

1. Walk the Dog

April is bringing beautiful spring weather to San Antonio. Get out and enjoy it with your furry best friend by going for a walk, jog, or hike around the city’s best parks. Check out our post on dog-friendly parks in the area for more information.

2. Find a Splash Pad

Your kids will love getting wet, running around, and playing at splash pads with their friends. Pack them up in the car with plenty of sunscreen, towels, and a change of clothes to have a fun day outside. San Antonio Mom Blogs has a great list of splash pads and pools around the city.

3. Go Window Shopping

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want to get out of the house, try to go window shopping. There are tons of stores and markets along the River Walk as well as El Mercado where you can explore. Take a look at the new, fashionable items and appreciate having a day out.

4. Explore the Missions

Take in San Antonio’s history, culture, and architecture at the five missions. Teach your kids about the site’s history, walk around, and maybe even join a Catholic service. Visit the San Antonio Missions website to plan your trip.

5. Go Tubing

Enjoy a lazy day tubing down the Comal River with your family and friends. You’ll get plenty of sunshine (don’t forget your sunscreen!), nature, and fun all without spending a dime.

6. Enjoy the Gardens

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a relaxing day at the Japanese Tea Gardens. Feel at one with nature while walking along the park’s walkways, over stone bridges, to the lily pond, or down to the waterfall. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot to take some time to yourself.

7. Take in Some Art

Another fun thing to do in San Antonio is visit all of the city’s art museums. Many of them have days where you can get in for free, so be sure to check their schedule before you head out. We would recommend the San Antonio Museum of Art, McNay Art Museum, and Southtown for traditional, local, and street art.

8. Go to the Museum

Expand your cultural horizons with a trip to a museum. Just like the art centers, many of the local museums offer free entrance on certain days. Be sure to visit The Witte Museum, The San Antonio Children’s Museum, and South Texas Heritage Museum.

9. Watch a Movie

You love taking your kids to the movies, but the cost can add up quickly. Instead of going to the theater, look into free screenings at parks and drive-ins. For dates and times, check in with Movie by Moonlight in Travis Park, Santikos Cinema, and Mission Marquee.

10. Get Crafty

Every Saturday Lakeshore Learning has free crafts for your kids to do. Some of the projects include making watering cans, creating kites, decorating flower pots, and making their own games. Your kids will love working with their hands, and you’ll be so proud of their artistic abilities.

There are plenty of free activities around San Antonio for you and your family. If you’re looking forward to a specific April event, tell us about it in the comments!
